Today, you can change someone's life.
Through your sponsorship of a child, SAF will be able to ensure that children have access to the basic necessities of life and that they receive a proper education. SAF believes that by investing in children’s education we are not only providing them with an opportunity to better their lives, but also the lives of the people around them.
Your welcome kit will contain a profile of the child you sponsor. You'll receive a pamphlet with a color photograph of the child as well as information about the sponsored child, their familial circumstances, and their community. We will also include a Frequently Asked Questions guide about child sponsorship.
Each Summer, you will receive updates about your sponsored child and their family. You will also receive a copy of our Sponsorship Newsletter with updated information about our “Educate a Child Program”.
When you sponsor a child, your monthly donation will go towards
Each year, close to 8 million children die before they reach the age of 5 around the world due to poverty. India is home to 1/3 of the world’s poor, which consists mostly of women and children. Despite the recent economic takeoff of the country, many children in India do not have access to the basic necessities of life including food, clean water, decent sanitation facilities, proper health care and the hope of a better future.
Aside from poor health and nutrition, these poor living conditions of India’s impoverished children exposes them to potential exploitation. In 2015, 12% of children in India were involved in child labour and 47% of girls were married before the age of 18. Living under the burden of poverty, children are forced to work in inhumane conditions just to survive and many young girls are married off simply because they have no other choice. Instead of playing with their friends, going to school, or having a normal happy childhood, they become trapped in the cycle of poverty without any means of escape.
SAF has been investing in children’s education since 2014 and our “Educate a Child” program has grown to nearly 300 children from across Northern India. Many of the children we help come from labour families and young mothers. By supporting the education of these children SAF is giving them opportunities to live a different life and are effectively combating the social problems that stem of poverty.
