Hi, my name is

18 January 2011     Sunam, Punjab

Gurdeep Kaur lives in Sangrur with her parents and two siblings. When she grows up, Gurdeep wants to be adoctor so she works very hard in school. Unfortunately, her father is a labourer and is having a difficult time providing for his family. Labourers often perform back-breaking work for very little wages. Gurdeep’s father makes about 7,000 rupees each month – that’s only $140 CAD. Gurdeep’s mother also works in a plastics factory and earns about 3,000 rupees each month. Her father was also involved in a violent altercation whilst attempting to help someone who was being attacked by a group of people. He attempted to stop the situation, but the attackers continued to physically assault the individual. During the altercation, Gurdeep’s father injured one of the attackers and was incarcerated for three and a half months, which further exacerbated his financial difficulties.

If you sponsor Gurdeep today, SAF CANADA can make sure her family’s financial difficulties do not affect her studies. She can continue her education and will have access to all the opportunities every child deserves. Your monthly contribution will allow this young girl to continue to go to school and give her the hope of a better future. Educating young girls like Gurdeep is very important as it protects them from early child marriages and allows them to live their lives without being dependent on others. Lifting women and children out of poverty is a key step to ending poverty worldwide as they are the ones who constitute a majority of the world’s poor. Sponsor Gurdeep today and join SAF CANADA in the fight against poverty.
